TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — A Tupelo man is behind bars on theft and DUI charges.

Tupelo police arrested Larry Mills Jan. 2 after he allegedly stole a vehicle from a business on East Main Street.

According to Sgt. Brandon Garrett with the Tupelo Police Department, Mills allegedly fled the scene in the stolen vehicle, and collided with two other vehicles at the intersection of Eason Boulevard and East Main Street.

Upon further investigation, police determined mills was under the influence of an unknown substance.

Garrett said a 4-year-old child was seriously injured in the initial collision, and was taken to the Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital for treatment.

“Basically what the vehicle did was (it ran) into two other cars that were stopped at the red light,” Garrett said. “The first car was impacted so hard that a minor child was severely hurt in the accident. He’s actually in Le Bonheur; they’re seeking treatment for head injuries and broken bones.”

Mills was charged with motor vehicle theft, felony DUI and DUI maiming.

His bond was set at $250,000 3 p.m. Monday.
