TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Tupelo’s mayor is encouraging all residents to do whatever they can to help others.

Tuesday morning, Mayor Jason Shelton proclaimed December second as “Giving Tuesday” Day for the city of Tupelo.

That proclamation is part of a worldwide movement that encourages people to do something to help someone else.

Shelton said giving to others has been a common trait for generations in Tupelo .

“Not everyone can give a large financial contribution, not everyone can fix someone’s roof, but everyone can do something. But whether it’s a small gesture or a grand gesture, this proclamation encourages residents of the city of Tupelo to do something to help someone else,” he said following the ceremony.

The mayor was joined by Kelly Scott, representing LeBonheur Children’s Hospital, during the reading of the proclamation.
