TUPELO, MS (PRESS RELEASE)

For the sixth straight month, the City of Tupelo’s sales tax revenues have seen an increase.
November sales tax amount was announced by Chief Financial Officer Kim Hanna today. Sales
tax is exceeding expectation with regard to budget by $272,000. The city is up over last year’s
actual numbers $210,000. “Until we get the Christmas sales tax for December, it is too early to
make a prediction for FY 2016,” she said.
Much of the city’s budget hinges on the sales tax numbers because it represents more than onehalf
of the general fund revenues, she said.
Said Mayor Jason Shelton, “The continued positive sales tax numbers reflect the strength of
Tupelo’s vibrant economy and as a city we will continue our business friendly policies that we
feel encourage economic growth.
“Exciting things are happening in Tupelo and we are moving in a very positive direction and are
cautiously optimistic that the upward trend will continue throughout the year,” he said.
