Two Qualify for Water Valley Election

WATER VALLEY, Miss. (WCBI) — Some Water Valley voters will settle a rematch in a couple of weeks.

Two people qualified for the city’s Aug. 13 special election to fill the Ward 2 alderman’s seat.

Former alderman Fred White, who is holding the seat temporarily, and Kathleen Hawkins have qualified for the race.

Hawkins’ husband, Ray, initially defeated White in the city’s May primaries. But the day before taking office earlier this month, Ray Hawkins vacated the seat because holding the position could force him to resign his full-time job as deputy police chief at the Ole Miss police department. That set up the special election.
