Two Receive Life Sentences After Pleading Guilty in GPD Captain Haddock’s Death

GRENADA, Miss. (WCBI) — Two men received life sentences after each pleaded guilty in the death of Grenada Police Department Captain John Haddock.

According to Grenada County Circuit Court documents, 23-year-old Kyle Wendt and 43-year-old Thomas Lee will spend the remainder of their lives in prison.

Haddock was killed in 2011 after he was hit by a black Toyota driven by Wendt. Lee was a passenger in the vehicle.

Haddock was in the road when he was hit, attempting to place a spike strip to halt Wendt’s speeding car from entering the intersection of Highway 8 and Interstate 55 overpass.

To date, Haddock is the first GPD officer to be killed in the line of duty.
