U.S.M.C. Veteran Continues Mall Marathon For Troops

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Some of us think about supporting a good cause, but one man is living it, by living in the mall.  US Marine Veteran Scott Burns is spending a week in the mall, raising money for Purple Heart Homes. That organization refurbishes homes for injured military veterans, making homes easier for them to get around in.  Burns had to have his left leg amputated below the knee as a result of an old injury from basic training. He says this weekend would be a great opportunity for people to come out to the Mall at Barnes Crossing to help remodel the home of a Vietnam Vet who lives in this area.

“All the money is going to go help veterans, the great thing about this event is if somebody comes in here and puts a dollar in the bucket or goes online and makes a donation , there is no overhead, there is no cost involved with this event so 100 percent of the money goes to help veterans,” Burns said.

The Marines are helping Scott at his fundraiser. They have a pull up bar near the stage in the food court, so people can get in some physical training. Allie Martin did some pull ups and pushups with some soon to be recruits.  To donate online go to www.isuppoprtthetroops.org
