TUPELO, Miss—Tupelo will serve as the host site for the USA Ultimate Southeast Regional Championships April 26-28, 2013. Division I Ultimate Frisbee teams from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee will take part in the tournament that will be held at the Ballard Park Sportsplex.

“As lead organizer, I am proud to say Tupelo has been one of our easiest venues to plan and coordinate with nationally. You can immediately tell they truly want to do everything possible to make your event a success, and our players consistently brag on the playing surfaces and attentiveness of the athletic trainers and other workers,” said John Rhodes Martin, southeast regional director for the USA Ultimate Organization. “During my tenure, the regional tournament has usually been held in larger cities like Austin or Atlanta, and I think it speaks to the confidence Tupelo has given us in their ability to deliver a quality event.”

The three-day event will feature 26 to 32 teams who qualify across the men’s and women’s divisions. The final number of bids depends on how the Southeast fares against other regions during the regular season. Winners in each gender division advance to represent the Southeast at the National Championships in Madison, WI.

“We were very excited to get the news that we would host the USA Ultimate Southeast Regional Championships,” said Seth Gaines, director of sports development for the Tupelo Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We have had the opportunity to host their conference championships on a couple of different occasions and felt like it was a great event for us. We have worked with John Rhodes Martin in the past, and are extremely excited to work with him again on the Regional Championships.”
