Union County Couple Dies In Weekend Crash

WALNUT, Miss. (AP) – Authorities say a New Albany couple died in three-vehicle crash near Walnut in Tippah County.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol tells the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal the accident happened at the intersection of U.S. Highway 72 and Mississippi 15 Sunday morning.

Troopers say an SUV driven by 32-year-old Michael Jackson, of Grand Junction, Tennessee, was traveling east on Highway 72 when it collided with a car driven by 88-year-old Deward D. Simpson, of New Albany.

They say a pickup sitting at the intersection was also struck after the initial collision.

Troopers say Simpson and his 75-year-old wife, Ima, both died at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
