UNION COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Union County and New Albany hope one point five million in state and federal grants will help lure 150 new jobs.

County supervisors today approved applying for the CDBG funds to build a facility or improve an existing one in the Glenfield Industrial Park. County leaders say the building could close the deal on a new industry.

“These days having an existing site is very important rather than building one from scratch. Union County has the sixth lowest unemployment rate in the state. This is going to produce about 150 jobs,” said Board of Supervisors attorney Thad Mueller following a public hearing today on the grant application.

New Albany and the county also are seeking grants to improve roads to the industrial park.
