Union County Solid Waste Employee Hit By Car, Twice

NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WCBI) – A Union County Solid Waste employee that was hit by a car, two times, was released from the hospital Wednesday.

Union County Sheriff Jimmy Edwards says William Douglas Conway, 41, hit Randy Lyons about 9:30 Monday morning, as he was working to load a garbage truck.

Conway is charged with aggravated DUI, burglary, and leaving with the scene of an accident with injuries.

Edwards says the driver of the garbage truck saw the accident was about to happen. When Lyons was struck, the driver pulled forward and that’s when Lyons was hit again.

Deputies say after the crash, Conway broke into a home trying to hide from law enforcement.

Edwards says Lyons, a candidate for county supervisor, will need another surgery.
