United Way Disaster Preparations

COLUMBUS, Miss.(WCBI)–Over the course of the Summer United Way of Lowndes County and their volunteers have been hosting Emergency Expo classes at the New Hope YMCA.

These classes prepare a community before the emergency happens.

When its storm season and a disaster strikes, organizations like the United Way are encouraging citizens to have a plan in place and share that plan with family, friends, and even neighbors.

“Flashlights, batteries, things like that. But then also being prepared to evacuate if you need to leave your home, where are you going to go. Have a plan,” said Patricia Brock/United Way of Lowndes County.

“We really need to be pre trained before something happens. We don’t want to wait until a storm comes,” said Renee Sanders/United Way Volunteer Center.

Several disaster prep classes were held at that location on a weekly bases.
