United Way of Lowndes Co. Hosts Emergency Expo

COLUMBUS, Miss. – (WCBI) The United Way of Lowndes County wants residents to be prepared which is why they hosted an emergency expo in Columbus this evening.

Booths were set up at Sims Scott Park, equipped with pamphlets, kits and information on how to prepare for disasters, including severe weather, floods and even fire.

Organizers say its important that residents know to prepare, react and respond in emergencies.

” Some of the things you have to plan for is loss of electricity or even loss to your home or damage to the homes, so if you’ve got power out you have got to have a plan for that or if your house is destroyed, don’t go in and don’t be looking at power lines and don’t be checking around your neighborhoods just go away until the emergency responders can get in and do their part,” says Executive Director Patricia Brock.

A similar expo was held earlier this month in Crawford.
