Update: Columbus Birthday Party Shooting Suspect Denied Bond

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Bond was denied for the Columbus man accused of shooting someone outside of a birthday party.

Devin Thompson, 25, made his first court appearance on Monday afternoon.

Thompson is charged with one count of aggravated assault.

An unidentified man was shot Sunday evening in the parking lot of the Townsend Community Center in South Columbus.

Investigators say Thompson and another man got into an argument before the gunfire erupted.

Detectives are still trying to figure out what started the fight.

The building and three vehicles were hit.

Now, police searching for others that could be involved.

“Investigation shouldn’t take very long, probably in the next couple of days we will be making another arrest related to this case,” said Interim Columbus Police Chief Captain Fred Shelton.

Shelton says Thompson could also be linked to other shootings in the city.
