UPDATE: Log Truck Driver Killed in Itawamba Crash Identified

ITAWAMBA COUNTY, Miss. – (PRESS RELEASE) The Mississippi Highway Patrol continues to investigate a fatal crash in Itawamba County involving a log truck.

Troopers responded to MS 178, east of Tremont, at approximately 2pm. Upon arriving it appeared William Ronald Cantrell, 50, of Golden, was traveling west bound on MS 178, when he apparently ran off the right side of the road and overturned his tractor/trailer.

The loaded log truck then caught fire.

Cantrell died at the crash scene. Authorities are still investigating the case to determine if prior contributing circumstances may have led to the crash.

MS 178 was closed for approximately 6 hours as crews cleared the crash scene.
