Video: Update On Ambulance Involved Wreck

NOXUBEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – An 88 year old woman has died following an ambulance crash Thursday night according to Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant.

Mississippi State Troopers continue to investigate the accident that sent four people to the hospital. It is unclear whether the woman’s death was a result of the accident.

The ambulance was transporting the elderly woman from a Noxubee County nursing home to a Columbus hospital when the crash occurred.

It happened around 6 p.m. northbound on Highway 45 in Lowndes County.

The ambulance is contracted through Life Care at Noxubee General Hospital.

Danny McKay, the hospital administrator, says they have a plan to cover residents in Noxubee County just in case a situations like this occurs.

“Our ambulance service contractor immediately last night they pulled up a unit from Kemper county to fill in our gaps and then we also have back up from Winston county and Carthage, Leake county as well. So we have it covered,” said McKay.

Everyone  involved in the wreck was transported to the hospital.  The other victims are reported to have non life-threatening injuries.
