Urgent Team Reminds Travelers of Safety Tips for Summer Vacations

COLUMBUS, Miss. (Press Release) — Graduation season is over, marking the beginning of the summer travel. Urgent Team, one of the largest and fastest growing independent operators of urgent care centers across the Southeast, reminds travelers to prepare properly to have a safe and healthy vacation.

One of the most important things to bring along on vacation is a travel health kit. Be sure to include any prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines for minor ailments that may come up and supplies to prevent injury or illness. Preventative supplies consist of sunscreen, insect repellent and hand sanitizer or wipes. Basic first aid supplies such as bandages, gauze, antibiotic ointment, antiseptic, 1 percent hydrocortisone cream and aloe would also be important to have on hand.

“With nice weather comes increased recreation leading to more injuries and illness,” said Lynn Scarbrough, Vice President of Clinical Operations. “Our goal at Urgent Team is to do everything we can to give our patients the best care possible, and that starts with injury prevention education. Being prepared while traveling can make everyone more safe and comfortable.”

If your travel plans include flying, be sure to have plenty of hand sanitizer or antibacterial wipes to use on the armrests and tray tables. Try to drink plenty of water while on board and have saline nasal spray and lubricating eye drops handy if it is particularly dry. It is also a good idea to contact your health insurance provider and see if your coverage includes where you are vacationing. If not, there are options for supplemental insurance that can provide coverage in the event of a medical emergency.

When you start planning any trip, find out about CDC recommended vaccines for the area you plan to visit as soon as possible because some require extra time to take effect. Also check to see that your routine vaccinations are up to date including seasonal flu vaccines.
