TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI)-Tupelo is trying to keep its word to property owners in the 16 square miles annexed into the city last year. City crews and engineers are in some of the neighborhoods mapping out plans for water and sewer expansions. The city has applied to the state for more than $21 million dollars in low interest loans to finance the work. The city wants to be ready to start work in April or May when the loans are approved in the next two months. Later this spring, Tupelo Light and Water crews also will begin installing fire hydrants in the Belden and Chesterfield areas.
