TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Hundreds of educators and counselors are spending a few days in Tupelo, learning how to better teach gifted and talented children.

The Mississippi Association for Gifted Children is holding its 40th annual state conference in Tupelo.

The theme for this year’s event is “Full Steam Ahead: Transforming the Platform of Gifted Education.”

It began today with pre-conference sessions, and organizers say the 3-day event is a way for teachers to network and encourage each other.

“They can share ideas with these people, and we have a wonderful network with teachers of the gifted,” Event Organizer Carol Paola said. “There are probably, I would say 700 plus teachers of the gifted across the state of Mississippi, serving over 26,000 children in grades two through six in gifted education.”

The conference kicks off Thursday and runs through Friday.

More than 500 teachers and counselors are expected to attend.
