COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Art students at MUW competed in a contest to create the logo for the 2013 Market Street Festival and the winner was announced Wednesday morning.

Second-year art student Natalie Thomas was chosen as the first place winner. She received a $300 prize and she’ll see her design on all of the festival’s marketing products. The Market Street Festival started in 1996 and has grown to one of Columbus’ largest events of the year. Thomas says she’s honored to win this year’s contest and looking forward to working as an artist.

“My heart’s racing right now. All I hear is my heart beating in my ears. I’m really excited. This is my 2nd year so it’s really nice just to even place. I really hope to work in graphic design or web design just as long as I’m doing any kind of art really. I mean that’s good for me,” says Thomas.

The Market Street Festival is held the first week of May each year. For more information about the Market Street Festival, go to www.columbusmainstreet.com.
