FULTON, MISS. (WCBI) – An annual beauty pageant raises funds for a non profit group. As WCBI’s Alyssa Martin reports, the pageant featured contestants from babies to young adults and also will benefit some very special children.

Nearly 50 contestants participated in the third annual Snow Angel Pageant. For several hours they displayed their charm and beauty while supporting a worthy cause.

“Right now our goal is to raise money for a special needs playground for the campus of Itawamba Attendance Center, we are currently 5 thousand dollars away from our goal, so we can definitely see the end in sight,” said April’s Angels Board Member Angie Moore.

April’s Angels was established in memory of April South, a mother and teacher at IAC, whom friends and colleagues say loved kids and was an advocate for special needs children. For the past year, the non profit has held several fundraisers to pay for the playgound.

The support has been overwhelming.

“We really appreciate all the support from the community. It goes beyond Itawamba County , other outlying communities have come forward and have really contributed and dug deep and donated and we are very thankful for them,” Moore said.

Judges had the toughest job of the afternoon, choosing winners in each age division. Two year old Keelee Hendrix won top honors and most photogenic. Her dad, Daniel says this is Keelee’s 20th pageant.

“She does her own thing and I just kind of coach her through what she forgets, which is not a lot. The spotlight is on her and she is a diva,” said KeeLee’s Dad, Daniel.

After the pageant, April’s Angels hope to have only $1,000 left to their fundraising goal. They hope to break ground on the playground in March or early April.
