Starkville Church Awards Grant to Local Teachers

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Two dedicated teachers were presented with a grant this afternoon in Starkville.

Second Baptist Church awarded grants for $450 each to Lasonja Ferguson and Ebony Fletcher through their Teacher Support Grant program.

The church started the program to have a more direct impact on student achievement.

Public school teachers in Starkville and Oktibbeha County were invited to apply for the funds.

The awardees say the grant will allow them to purchase more tools for enhanced learning.

“Teaching is my passion so I feel that I want my children in my classroom to have just as much opportunity as my kids do at home,” says Ferguson.

“I try to make my class as fun as I possibly can. So what I did was search for a lot of different games, I applied for the grant and they accepted it,” says Fletcher.

Nearly 65 children will benefit from the Second Baptist Church Teacher Support grant.
