WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) — The downtown streets in West Point were filled with visitors and vendors for the 36th annual Prairie Arts Festival. The fest attracts people from all over the state for unique arts, great food and live music.

It’s one of the largest festivals in the country and held each year on Labor Day weekend.

Hand crafted art, fried food and fine jewelry bring people from all over to the Prairie Arts Festival.

Including John Willcoxon… who brought his unique wood art here for the first time.
He hopes the wooden pieces, made from old barns, houses and pallets, will be things his customers remember.

“The fact that it’s iconic art. It’s something I try to resonate with a nostalgia or with something that conjures up home, rural America, things that are important to Mississippians and other people around the country,” Willcoxon said.

Barbara Eaton’s one-of-a-kind musical, clay sculptures often surprise customers.

“First of all they just think their little figurines and then they hear me playing them and then they get surprised and then they want to play them themselves and so it’s not just an art piece, its also a musical piece,” Eaton said.

Both first time artists do plan to return next year.

“It’s been interesting. I’ve had a lot of people, made some sales, it’s been really good. Glad to be here,” said Willcoxon.

” Everybody’s been so sweet and the people running the festival were so helpful this morning helping me set up. So its been a great day, ” said Eaton.
