Video: 75th Pilgrimage Prep Begins

It’s almost time for this year’s Pilgrimage.

This year the annual two week event is celebrating 75 years of bringing people to Columbus.

Dixie Butler is working on her Pilgrimage check list, prepping her home before thousands of people walk through it.

She’s cleaning the floors, fixing the curtains and and making sure everything is sparkling.

Her hard work is all for the city she loves.

” You feel good that you’ve done something to help promote your community, so it’s helping Columbus,” says Butler.

This year will be her 46th Pilgrimage in Temple Heights, she says her favorite part is still meeting new friends and teaching them about her home.

” I think that there are still a lot of people that are interested in history, in architecture, decoration and flowers and gardens. And there are a lot of people who want to come and tour, ” says Butler.

She says seeing the reactions when people walk in makes it all worth it.

” Makes you feel good. It’s an ego trip for us, actually because people really seem to like it, ” says Butler.

This year visitors will get a chance to explore more of Columbus than in years past.

” Very honored that several homes are open this year that have not been open in the last few years, ” says Nancy Carpenter, Visit Columbus.

Making the 75th Pilgrimage, one that will soon not be forgotten.

Ms. Butler says many volunteers help her get her home together and she could not do it without them.

There are many events besides the house tours this year for more information on that click here.
