Video: 8 Days of Hope Aims to Assist With Tupelo Disaster Relief
TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — A grassroots, faith based relief effort will bring its largest group to Tupelo next week to help with disaster relief.
The tool trailer for 8 Days of Hope is parked at the Tupelo Furniture Market, which will serve as the base of operations for the ministry’s major rebuilding effort which begins this weekend.
3,023 volunteers from 37 states will come to Tupelo to help rebuild and rehab more than 160 homes in the area damaged by the April 28 tornado.
Right now there are 40 volunteers who will help organize the massive effort and 8 Days of Hope President
Steve Tybor says everyone helping out has a specific and vital role to play.
“There’s a Bible verse, First Peter, 4:10, where God’s word tells us to use the gifts He’s given us to serve others,” Tybor, 8 Days of Hope president, said. “So we have gifted roofers, gifted electricians, then we have single moms and widows and grandparents and people like me who are less skilled but we still pool our gifts together, we have people picking up people from the airport, we have people making food, people manning a warehouse.”
Most of the families who will be helped by 8 Days of Hope have little or no insurance.
This marks the eleventh disaster relief trip for the ministry.
