ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) — Veterans from World War II and the Korean War were honored with a parade in Aberdeen, Saturday.

Veterans who fought more than five decades ago came out in Aberdeen Saturday morning to remember the sacrifices they made for America’s freedom.

“Lewis and Nina Jurney. I knew that they owned these World War II vehicles and I thought what a great way to show their vehicles and then honor these veterans by them getting to ride in them today in our parade,” says Aberdeen Main Street Manager, Ann Tackett.

Folks lined the streets in downtown Aberdeen to pay tribute to the veterans who are called the greatest American generation.

“I came out today to see my Pappa. He’s a veteran. I’m so proud of him. He is one of the great men that is responsible for the freedom we have today,” says Andrea Reynolds, who attended the parade with her grandfather, a World War II veteran.

Navy veteran Lem Holman fought in the Korean war and says he hopes this generations remembers why they went to battle.

“I hope they can find out what most of the veterans were fighting for. Peace is the main thing. Have peace in this country,” says Holman.

After the parade, the celebration continued with music and vendors near the Blues Mural. The World War II military vehicles were also on display after the parade. Hackett says Aberdeen Main Street plans to honor veterans from other eras as well.
