ACKERMAN, Miss.(WCBI)–Some 40 years ago the war in Vietnam came to a bitter end and American troops were withdrawn. In Ackerman there is one brave military veteran who fought not only in that Indochina war, but two other wars as well.

Its not every day you find a soldier having fought in World War Two, The Korean Conflict, and Vietnam. His name is SFC William Brelan Jackson, and he is one tough outspoken veteran having served in the army and navy. He was there in Nam, and you must respect his contribution to our country.

At home in the southern part of Ackerman, 92 year old veteran William Brelan Jackson serenades his family while demanding they listen to his war stories. Jackson is quick to point out the loss of life he witnessed all around him while in Vietnam.

“Wasn’t over there a month until they were either wounded or killed. And I congratulated myself several times by being in three wars I didn’t even get a scratch,” said William Brelan Jackson/Military Veteran.

SFC Jackson indeed fought during the controversial war during the 60’s. Although a proud soldier, look back in retrospect this outspoken man of conviction, would have done things another way.

“I never would have gone there in the first place. I wouldn’t have gone there in the first place. We had no business over there. That’s their business if they want to be a communist let them be a communist. We wouldn’t do anything about it any way after we lost 58,000 men. They still were communist, they are communists now,” said SFC William Brelan Jackson.

Jackson’s niece Beverly Jackson Rives along with other patriotic citizens without hesitation salute our troops who served in that war.

“Very appreciative of what they’ve done and the time that they risk their lives and left their families. We know that a lot of prayer got him through those wars without anything but a scratch as he says,” said Beverly Jackson Rives/Niece.

“Yes, I would have done it different if I had been the president like Johnson was, and had the power,” said William Jackson.

No welcome mates were thrown out from some citizens upon the return of the troops, who fought against the North Vietnamese and eventually witnessed the fall of Saigon.

“And I think the most pleasing thing I saw was the Statue of Liberty,” said William Brelan Jackson.

Wednesday marks the 70th anniversary of the signing of the unconditional surrender of Japan. SFC Jackson was a navy man on the USS Missouri at that time.
