OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Dry conditions have prompted burn bans across most of the state, but that hasn’t completely stopped residents from having backyard fires. And Saturday’s windy conditions likely prompted one of those backyard blazes to get out of hand.

Volunteers with the Adaton Fire Department in Oktibbeha County responded to a brush fire late Saturday afternoon at a home on County Lake Road.

Winds fanned what reportedly started as a trash fire, causing damage to the backyard and a fence at the home. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze before it spread to neighboring property.

The homeowner was cited by the Sheriff’s Department.
