COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – At least a dozen streets were under water this afternoon in Columbus.

The thunderstorm seemingly stalled over north Columbus, bringing several inches of rain in about an hour.

Portions of Highway 45 between Bluecutt Road and 31st Avenue North were flooded.

Most drivers avoided the rushing water by driving in the turning lane, causing a big traffic backup.

However, some did attempt to drive through the high water.

Lowndes County EMA Director Cindy Lawrence says most of the roads that flooded were in the Highway 45 corridor.

Despite the high water, no businesses have reported any damage.

Several drivers escaped the high waters after their vehicles were submerged or they drove off into a flooded ditch.

Flooding was also reported in the county, specifically along Gail Road.
