LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss.(WCBI)–A global threat alert has been issued. Make no mistake about it, small airports boast of being big on travel safety.

Managers at GTR Airport say the safety of their passengers is their number one priority. And when it comes to airport safety, in some ways there is no difference between a major airport and not so large GTR.

“Yeah actually we have the same security requirement as bigger airports. Same screening requirements and so whats unique about our airport is actually there is time in between each flight,” said Matt Dowell/Airport Manager.

Handling a lower number of departure flights allows for better efficiency, keeping security personnel more alert.

“So, TSA gets a break in between each flight. There are smaller crowds. So, TSA has more time and attention to spend on every passenger and every bag that comes through the airport,” said Matt Dowell.

“I feel confident flying nowadays I think. Specially with the security that the US Airports give to the passengers, also the airlines,” said Raul Osorio/Airport Passenger.

Someone or group posing a threat at one of the smaller airports beware, measures in place at major airports are also in place everywhere.

“With the new policies and the new rules the airlines and the airports giver to the passengers, so that makes us feel more confident,” said Raul Osorio.

Passengers are encouraged to arrive an hour and a half early for easy check in.
