WEST ALABAMA (WCBI) — Election officials are expecting a low turnout when Alabama voters go to the polls tomorrow for a handful of local and statewide runoffs.

Lamar County might be one exception, though. Current County Coroner Marty Gottwald and longtime Sheriff’s Deputy Hal Allred are vying for the sheriff’s seat in the democratic runoff. They were the top two vote-getters in the June 3 primary. Terry Perkins is retiring after 28 years in office.

Lamar County also has a runoff in the democratic primary for the District 1 County Commission seat.

Marion County is the only other west Alabama county with a local race on Tuesday’s ballot.

Statewide, voters will decide runoffs in the primaries for secretary of state, auditor and public service commission.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
