LAMAR COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — On top of choosing the right candidates for the job, Alabama voters will also need a valid photo I.D. before placing their ballot.

The voter I.D. law goes into affect just in time for primary elections. Each voter must have a specific type of photo I.D.

A valid driver’s license, a photo voter I.D. card or a valid passport will be accepted.

One voter says he’s not too excited about the new requirements to vote.

“People shouldn’t be pressured to have I.D. I think the voting registration the voter thing is wrong to make them have I.D. If you can just prove some other kind of way that you are a residence in the county then you should be able to vote,” says Fred Johnson.

The Bill was passed during the regular legislative session in 2011.
