Video: American Legion Post 49 Names Educator of 2015

LEE COUNTY, Miss. – (WCBI) A Lee County high school teacher is honored by the local American Legion.

Tuesday evening during the meeting of the Lee County School Board, Saltillo High English Teacher Bethany Poppelreiter was named “Educator of the Year” by Post 49 of the American Legion.

The Post’s Commander compared teachers to veterans when it comes to the importance of the work they perform.

“While I don’t feel like our sacrifices are as great, obviously as the veterans, it is nice to be paralled and recognized for the stuff we do everyday in the classroom,” says Poppelreiter.

She will now represent District One in the Mississippi Department of the American legion Educator of the Year Competition this summer

Poppelreiter has been a teacher for five years and was also named the district’s “Teacher of the Year.”
