AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) — Amory joins the ranks of North Mississippi towns considering tougher rules for apartment owners.

Aldermen have set a May 20 public hearing as one of the final steps to approve minimum standards for rental properties.

The standards cover heating and air units, building sturdiness, utilities and landscaping.

Landlords will be given specific lists of the rules and the city will provide a list of landlords to potential renters.

Tupelo has had similar regulations on the books for four years and New Albany, Louisville and Columbus all have considered them.
