AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) — An Amory group may help set a state precedent Tuesday when it inspects ballots from the city’s failed alcohol referendum two months ago.

City Clerk Lee Barnett and a Let’s Grow Amory representative will conduct the court-ordered inspection, then present their final findings to a judge.

It’s the first challenge to a special referendum in the state, and could help provide guidance for future challenges.

Some voters complained the ballot was unclear, or that they didn’t see a place to vote on the beer referendum.

205 individuals voted on the liquor measure, and not on the beer measures. Both issues were narrowly defeated.
