AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) -A local church provides shelter and food for tornado victims and first responders .

Members of Amory’s First Baptist Church gathered in the gym not long after the tornado hit, making sandwiches, bagging potato chips and providing drinks for volunteers and first responders. The church’s pastor lives in the area and immediately after the tornado struck, he contacted several members of the congregation who sprang into action.

“We’re right here in the middle of downtown Amory in our community, we care about the people around us, we’ve had experience with tornadoes through here before so we wanted to have something ready to meet basic needs right now and to help them out in any way we can, we want to be servants to our community.”

Pastor Simpson says First Baptist Amory will provide food for victims and first responders for as long as it is needed.
