AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) – When it rains, it pours.

Once local police department is feeling the effects of the heavy rains.

From flooding waters, to possible mold, the Amory Police Department is asking for help.
For more than a decade, the most recently built part of the police department has been plagued with extensive leaks.

The police chief tells WCBI they are taking the next steps to get help for the re-occurring problem.

“We do know that we’ve got water problems, leaking and we’ve tried to resolve those issues over this period of time but still with no luck. We still got a lot of water, in fact it seems to be getting worse,” said Amory Police Chief Ronnie Bowen.

Chief Bowen says they don’t know the source of the leak.

Repairs have been made to the department, like resealing the building, but the waters keep coming in.

“Some think it comes from around the foundation, I personally don’t think that’s where its coming from because I never see any water standing outside the building. The water I think is coming from the roof, running down the walls and into the floor,” said Chief Bowen.

Chief Bowen says they have sent around 15 letters to contractors to get estimates on the cost for the repairs.

Only one has responded.

The department continues to work with the city building inspector to find a contractor for the job.

“We need an estimate because we’re going to have to try to budget money to try to fix it and at this point in time, we don’t have a clue what its going to cost to fix. We don’t know where the problem is,” said Chief Bowen.

For Chief Bowen it boils down to image. He says his officers and staff want their work-space to be presentable for the community they serve.

“The cars we ride in, the equipment we have, it belongs to the tax payers and we don’t want to make a bad impression on them with a building, though there’s things we don’t have any control over, we’ve done what we can but we still have a problem,” said Chief Bowen.
Chief Bowen adds they want an estimate soon on the repair costs so they can plan the budget accordingly.
