Amory, Miss. (WCBI)–The Amory Police Department is using a smart phone app to help keep the city safe, something no other department in the area is doing.

“It’s very important to us because of course it’s the people who we work for….and we want them to be in the loop.”

The application developing company OCV, LLC created the app for Amory Police.

Anyone with the app can send an anonymous crime tip, search a sexual predator database, and see who is in jail. It also gives you a link to the police department’s website

“It’s very important to us because of course it’s the people who we work for and we want them to be in the loop”, says Amory Chief of Police Ronnie Bowen, “…I mean we have a limited number of officers as any department will have, you know, we need the eyes and ears of everyone.”

While Bownen is confident his officers can get the job done, he also knows the vital role the community plays in helping solve crimes.

“We’re not asking them to do the police work, that’s what they pay us to do. But we sure appreciate the help that they can offer and give to us and like I said most people wants to help the police.”

Bowen says the app will not track your location and once it’s downloaded, you can choose what counties to receive the updates from.

OCV representatives says the app has been downloaded by 378 people, 227 by Android and 151 by the iOS system.

The Amory Police Department app can be downloaded through the iTunes app store or Google Play for Android.
