AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) — Amory residents can expect to see a slightly higher sewage bill.

The Amory Board of Aldermen unanimously approved a rate increase which would hike residents’ monthly bill by about $7.

Residents will also pay $3.50 per 1,000 gallons, up from $1.50.

Utilities Manager Tony Swan said the increase was prompted after officials determined they were spending more on maintenance than they were bringing in.

The first sewage rate increase in more than ten years takes effect March 1.

Aldermen also reappointed the city’s current school board secretary.

Mindy Brand was reappointed after no one qualified for the normally elected position.

Brand chose not to run for reelection, but said she would hold the position until a Nov. 3 special election.

Individuals interested in running for the position have until Aug. 8 to qualify.
