AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) — Frisco Park in Downtown Amory is certainly an eyesore right now as city leaders and the community continue replacing an old fountain and making way for a new splash pad.

Its hard not to see heavy equipment action and dirt being moved around at Frisco Park in downtown Amory across from city hall. Amory Mayor Brad Blalock has been busy overseeing the project making that site more pleasing to the eye.

“I’ve jokingly, you know added that we are looking for the body of Jimmy Harper and we’ll stop digging when we find him. But all jokes aside, we understand that it’s not very attractive right now and is an inconvenience for some of our citizens. We know that a lot of people like to walk in the park and they are not able to do that right now,” said Mayor Brad Blalock/Amory.

Making use of much-needed funding from citizens, private donors, and grants the demolition phase of the new project making way for an interactive splash pad is just about finished. With a little patience, the new attractive addition is expected to be something the people of Amory can be proud of.

“Children can play in it safely, people can sit around it and enjoy a nice picnic lunch around it,” said Mayor Brad Blalock.

When the demolition phase is complete, the actual construction phase begins.

“We anticipate having new sidewalk area around the fountain as well as having some artistic elements added to the park. Some new park benches,” said Mayor Brad Blalock.

In all likelihood, the splash pad project will not be finished in time for the upcoming Amory Railroad Festival beginning April 9th.
