CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Angela Turner Lairy will take over her father’s seat in the state senate.

Lairy defeated West Point businessman Kenny Fowler in Tuesday’s (1/15) special election in Clay, Lowndes, Noxubee, and Oktibbeha Counties.

She received significantly more than half of all the votes in each county.

Lairy will resign from her current position as prosecutor for West Point and Clay County.

She will serve the remaining three years of her father’s, Bennie Turner’s term, after being sworn in next week.

Turner was elected to the senate in 1992 and served until his death last November.
