Video: Area Deputies Hit the Gun Range for Firearms Qualifications

LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) -In Winston County at this well used range, the noise of gunfire becomes a welcome sound of assurance, that citizens are being protected.

“We’re just going over things we learned in the academy years ago. Some of us have been out a long time and it never hurts to brush up on those facets.”

Haven’t done this in awhile, bet I’m still good. Vietnam Era, that’s a long time ago.”

When called upon to react with force, these expert marksmen must be able to properly engage, by hitting just the intended target.

“Accuracy is a key and safety for the public so that’s why we took the morning to come out and train with these weapons. And hopefully keep the public safer from any loose rounds or any miss fires or anything that could go wrong.”

“Well, in times we live in now we never know what dangers we are going to face or what situations we may be called to intervene in.”

And so training with a proactive approach, should the unthinkable happen, is making sure there is preparation for any dangerous scenario.

“Whether it be a school shooting, or violence at a school, churches, anywhere where our citizens are vulnerable, there weapons allow us a tool.”

Some of the deputies are trained using their own personal weapons that they must be certified with before using in the line of duty. And of course there is also certification with pistols. Tuesday the training was with long guns.
