NORTHEAST MISS. (WCBI) — Three northeast Mississippi governments get a cash-flow boost to get them through the first weeks of tornado recovery.

Three Rivers Planning and Development District is making 1-year interest free loans to Tupelo, Lee and Itawamba Counties.

Tupelo and Lee County will get $1 million each, and Itawamba will get $500,000 to help them cover the short-term costs of cleanup and assistance from the April 28 tornadoes.

Local government treasuries often are strained in the initial weeks of disaster response because expenses have to be paid up front, and it can be months before they get state and federal reimbursement.
