STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – With Thanksgiving behind us and Christmas just ahead Holiday decorating is in full swing. For many  Christmas just isn’t Christmas without putting up the yuletide tree. As WCBI’s R. H . Brown finds out, what’s artificial to some….is real enough for others.

Christmas trees are certainly no longer just of the evergreen variety. When it comes to selecting the perfect tree, its totally up to you. Many are opting for a more reusable kind.

“Yes, because they can be put up and last longer. They do better in like a lot of nursing homes a lot of hospital and other places put them because they don’t shed and make a mess as well as some of the real trees do.”

If you so desire, they can be all the colors of the rainbow, even pink.

“No, pink is not Christmas, even though I got pink on today we, Christmas is red and green and its got to be a real tree. Got to be a green one. Got lots of pretty ornaments to go on it.”

“Green, got to be real no artificial trees for us. Its been, we’ve been married 45 years and its been 45 green trees.”

“It smells good, and the needles are going to drop sooner or later but I got the stuff to keep that from happening on there to do that.”

In 2012, some ten point nine million artificial trees were purchased in the United States.

If you do put up an artificial tree and want the smell of an evergreen….you can have just that. You can have a big tree….or one that so skinny it looks like it may have been on a diet. There are black and white tree, and for churches and the home, how about artificial palm trees for a nativity scene.

“But there are the times when maybe allergies for children, or pets that you don’t want the real tree. But the artificial then serves its purpose. It already has lights on it.”

So remember, when putting up your tree this Christmas holiday, the sky is the limit….and the colors are too. R. H. Brown WCBI News Starkville. >

Be sure to place your tree clear of doors. Choose a spot away from heat sources, such as TVs, fireplaces, and radiators.
