Video: Attorney General Recommends Spending Particulars for Lawsuit Settlement Funds

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – Attorney General Jim Hood wants to use a portion of lawsuit settlement money help transition inmates back into society.

Today, his office turned over 30 million dollars to the state’s general fund. The money is from lawsuit settlements with Standard and Poors and Capital One. 20 million was turned over last month.

Hood is recommending the state use 15 million for a new unit at the state hospital, in Whitfield, to house the criminally insane. Another two million would be used rental and housing assistance for the mentally ill.

Hood believes three million dollars will pay for a one hundred bed facility for jail transition program. Hood is required to recommend spending for funds collected by his office.
