ABERDEEN, Miss. – (WCBI)Some competitive fishermen hope the wide mouths are biting, while Aberdeen city leaders hope this weekend’s tournament feeds the local economy.

Nearly 200 anglers are in town for the Mississippi Bass Federation Tournament.

The two day event kicked off Thursday evening with a dinner at the Aberdeen Parks and Recreation Building.

81 boats will launch from the Aberdeen Marina, and there are several prizes up for grabs.

With the extra traffic in town, everyone will benefit.

“170 fishermen, plus some got their family here. We’ve been staying here three-four nights, going out to eat and family shopping. So, it’s a good impact for the city,” said Buddy French, director of the tournament.

Weigh-ins are scheduled for both Friday and Saturday afternoons.
