COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — It can be difficult when deciding which charity to donate, but one Columbus company is making the selection process a little easier.

Here’s how the “Be Generous” campaign is kicking off throughout our area.

LH Nickels Wealth Management in Columbus is taking 2015 by storm with a year-long campaign to spotlight local charities.

“People are always looking for a way to get involved and just sometimes they don’t know how or they may think that they have to give financially or they have to volunteer their time but there are so many different ways for people to be generous,” says Kathryn Phillips.

For the next 12 months, Nickels will be featuring a different charity each month on their Facebook page. January’s feature charity is the Palmer Home in Columbus.

“Very well known already in our community. We just thought it would be a good one to start out with they jumped right on board when we talked to them before it initially,” says Phillips.

“We’re very grateful to Nickels and others who give us regularly but also for this campaign specifically. We can’t make it here at Palmer Home for Children without the good will and donations that come from our community,” says Dr. David Foster.

Foster is hopeful this campaign will help future children find a safe home.

“For us it’s the kid who has no where to go who is in need of a home who is in need of safety and security,” says Dr. Foster.

Palmer Home has already received $2,000, but Phillips says they are also trying to combine funds with fun.

“Drake Bassett who is President and CEO of Palmer Home has agreed that if we reach this ten thousand dollar goal this month, that he will dress up like cupid and kiss a pig in Belk parking lot of Valentine’s Day so we’re hoping just that will encourage people to do this and jump on board, get excited and get involved,” says Phillips.

Nickels plans to announce each charity by releasing a video on their Facebook page the first of every month.
