BALDWYN and TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – A Baldwyn man is being held on a million dollar bond, charged with the murder of his 7 year old daughter. As WCBI’s Allie Martin reports, the shocking story began with a house fire last week and continues as local and state authorities gather evidence.
“I love my family”

That was all David Floyd, Jr.  said after his bond was set at one million dollars.

“It’s a sad day in Lee County.”

Floyd is charged with second degree murder . Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson says the 28 year old is responsible for a fire last week at this Baldwyn home. When first responders arrived early Tuesday, a 26 year old woman , her toddler and an infant were injured, but out of the house.

David Floyd’s seven year old daughter, Savannah, was found inside a bedroom. She was badly burned and had breathed in smoke and toxic fumes. Officials with the state fire marshals office say the temperature inside the blazing home was 500 degrees.

“SInce Tuesday, this child has been in great pain, due to the injuries she sustained at the hands of this particular individual. ”

Savannah was taken to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital, where she died Monday morning. And although David Floyd claimed he loved his family, Sheriff Johnson says his actions prove otherwise.

“We can release that at no time do we know that he ever visited any of his family and children, in the hospital .”

Floyd was jailed last week for failing to comply with a court order and probation order. The State Fire Marshal continues its investigation and more charges could be filed. In Tupelo I’m Allie Martin WCBI News.
Authorities aren’t releasing a motive for the crime. An autopsy will be conducted on Savannah Floyd’s body tomorrow in Jackson.
