BROOKSVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Gun shots rang out over the weekend at a Brooksville nightclub injuring at least three people, and landing one other person behind bars. Relatives of one of those victims that was shot would like to see illegal activities there banned from their quiet street.

People living on Sherrod Street near the Paradise Lounge in Brooksville are voicing concern in the aftermath of a Saturday night shooting in their neighborhood. Monday, the mother of one of the victims showed how a possible bullet from a suspect’s gun entered, and exited, one of her son’s legs. From what we understand a lot of shots were fired, according to her, he was just an innocent bystander.

“He was not partaking in any of that,” Thasia Scales, shooting victim’s mother, said. “He walked out, he said he put his hand on the door handle. When he got ready to open the door, bullet hit him.”

“And I heard some shooting, and I heard a lot of people running hollering,” Brooksville resident Patricia Sherrod said. “And they had, when I seen them, I seen a machine gun I don’t know who it was.”

Brooksville Police responded to a very similar situation at that business about a year ago, when a victim was wounded at a birthday party.

There was once a day care center at the location, and residents living there on Sherrod Street are saying that things were much more quieter then

“My thing is it shouldn’t have been in a neighborhood. There is no problem with a club, but its just where its at,” Lillie Ann Burnett, shooting victim’s grandmother, said.

Brooksville police have arrested 21-year-old Jonirus Davis and charged him with firing a weapon within the city limits. Meanwhile, residents on this Brooksville Street are bracing for what very well could happen again.

“We just don’t have enough police enforcement to do what they need to do in this town,” Burnett said.

“Its dangerous for everybody in the community. Because a stray bullet don’t know nobody. And it could have caused a lot of death,” Sherrod said.

That shooter that was arrested is released on bond. Anyone with information on that club shooting is asked to call Brooksville police at 662-738-5532.
