TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Those who are planning on getting help from the Salvation Army’s “Angel Tree” program have less than a month to take a budgeting class, or they may be out of luck.

Several months ago, the Salvation Army asked its chapters to require those needing financial assistance, or who need help buying Christmas presents through the “Angel Tree” program, to take a budgeting class.

So far,  fewer than 100 people in the Tupelo area have taken the class, and the deadline for Angel Tree applicants is the end of August.

“You don’t want to be a constant source for someone, you want to be able to help them when needed and then guide them in other ways so they can start helping themselves and maybe even help others,” said Susan Gilbert, social services director with the Salvation Army.

The two hour class is held two times a week,  in the morning and evening.   For more information call 662 842 9222.
