WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) West Point Police held a gun forum Thursday evening with local business owners to discuss the State’s new open carry policy.

Officials passed out signs for owners to place outside their businesses.

Leaders say they’re trying to help owners and the public navigate the new law and avoid confusion when the law takes effect.

“The most important thing is that they don’t have to allow people in their business with weapons on that person if they don’t want to. All they have to do is ask the person who has the weapon on them, ‘We don’t allow that in here. Please come back without it,’ and if that person doesn’t comply with their request, then they need to contact law enforcement,” said Katie Moulds, Assistant DA of the 16th Judicial District.

The new policy takes effect Monday.
